Once a website is online, getting traffic and increasing traffic share is the most common goal. After all, the website has been put out there with a purpose in mind relating to persuading, informing, educating, and selling. While social media offers one channel for traffic to find your site, it is also one that remains a short-term immediate benefit as it happens more in real time in a social sphere. You post a link to your site that you want to share, those who are online and respond to it, come visit your site. Days, weeks, months later, you either repeat the same process again and again to sustain that traffic flow, or you seek out other alternatives to keep ( Read More ... )

Many people are looking at how to leverage social media to generate business. To jump into social media with the sole focus upon 'sell, sell, sell' is bound to result in huge results. However, the larger percentage of results will be broken trust-relationships.
Many of the social media platforms are clamping down more and more on the way marketers engage people on their social media sites. They are looking out for their user base. Just as you would protect your own client list, they're protecting their client list and best interests. So what do you do? ( Read More ... )

Many conversations these days pertain to what the website is for, where the web is going, whether the same strategies from five years ago hold true today. Before the buzzword social media and web 2.0, everyone knew the importance of a list and having regular email communication to their clients and audience. In larger organizations, the web and email may have had much less prominence, as they opted for the traditional print media channels for the client / audience communication.
Today, so much more is possible directly online.

Getting traffic to your website is and should be a top concern for anyone with, or planning to create, a website. No matter what community online I spend time interacting with, the common question of how to get more traffic to your website is raised. It makes perfect sense.
The whole purpose of the website is to inform customers, and to create relationships with new customers. You'll notice it states: Create relationships with new customers, and NOT get new customers. Those days are gone, and social media is a driving force restoring best practices that focus upon building relationships with people, as people. Along this journey into social media, there were many marketers who used this effectively with poor practices that result in damaged relationships. This article focuses upon the outcomes of this journey, and re-establishes the tried and true considerations for ( Read More ... )

The Social Shift on Users

We're all finding ourselves more challenged at remaining open to more
public review. The irony, however, is that as more people jump on the
bandwagon, we become the proverbial needle in the haystack.
With more open doors making it easier to find and connect with others, our sphere of influence increases. Or does it?
Engagement is the Only Way
We must engage people. The conversations on LinkedIn occur most often
in Discussion Groups. LinkedIn has numerous discussion groups, and
using the search features you can explore many and find those that have

The Internet is a bit of a mystery to a lot of people. I'm fortunate to have been working in tech for ... a long time. ;) I also spent some of those tech-years helping people get clear and find work, and then went to full-time coaching. I have such a strong desire to help people get on track and succeed.
Going into full-time coaching, I naturally launched a website and proceeded to work on my business. Many challenges come with starting a business, and not all of it is business related. Some of it is deeply personal where we are challenged and require our own inner change.Other challenges are the tools and technology. And let's not even mention the poor-choice bad-investments that give us the live-and-learn lessons.
Working those years directly focused on coaching, clients with the entrepreneurial spirit were a big part and I enjoyed many creative brainstorming conversations with clients. Seeing successful outcomes is always a privilege to enjoy. Naturally, my expertise with tech, and keeping up with it, I also shared a great deal of coaching around starting your Internet business online.
I've already stepped in many potholes. Why should you step in those same ones when all it takes is for me to share my expertise and knowledge? (Read More... there's something here for you)

I don't remember the date of my last post, all I know is it seems to be a long time.
It's been a busy month investigating and developing additional social media strategies to further extend a website's reach to the potential audiences. Many new tools are always popping up, some with merit, and some without. Test and prove is the method and mantra.
After working on this for a few months and gaining deeper insights, OMC Social Media Solutions launched the site Social Media Right dot com. I was particularly excited by the Facebook theme I discovered and thought it would be a fun way to break the ice with a new site that discusses and shares what some of my trials, tests, and proofs have shown me.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Reflecting Design on some web marketing strategy. Over the course of weeks that our relationship developed, I had the opportunity to give this client a better perspective on what could be possible for his website and displaying the cool convex mirrors he creates and sells to retailers and interior designers.
The old site was a throwback to the first days of the Internet when tables were used. There was also a lot of extraneous code littering the pages as the site had evolved since the first launch after numerous updates to the site. It seemed inevitable that the site became a little distorted, as I too experienced with doing sites in those days, that some of the formatting would go a little askew.

Sacred Earth Journeys is an established Vancouver travel and tour agent that stands out from the norm. They off a unique and different approach to bringing travelers an experience that informs, educates, and enlightens for many who participate.
Sacred Earth Journeys came into the being during a time when much attention was on the benefits of having a website to reach your market audience. They seized the opportunity well developing a comprehensive web presence complete with information about their tours, their guides, and background with benefits for the experience each travel destination and tour offered. Incorporated into that is the ability to book your vacation online.

Social media is an arena, a place where we all skate sharing the same ice. We can skate solo, or we can join small groups to support and enjoy one another. Often times, it is like our real lives and how we engage and connect differently as our mood and circumstances provide. So this social media marketing strategy focus upon the natural ebb and flow we also experience in real life.

A response in a discussion forum to professional coaches looking to leverage social media marking.
Ethics, value, and relationship.
I've been a technology professional since 1986, a coach since 2005, and a man who stands for something bigger than my pockets for much longer. Seeing what I see around "marketing" I'm going to share some important distinctions, and encourage anyone tempted to use traditional marketing techniques on any social media engagement sites and tools.
First, I will not pick on any names here. I have a philosophy that allows for free choice. Therefore, I will not publicly pick on any one individual behind their back. However, I have and will engage in a challenging public conversation online with anyone using tactics that are abusive of the tools and audience. As a coach, educator, lover of social media and it's principles, this is a natural opportunity to enlighten the would-be offender and help them become more successful. I provided an honest critiquing question of an Internet Marketer just recently. I honestly do not know how anyone can possibly expect to succeed at online business with a poorly done and amateur looking website.
Not sure that I'd get a response, I was pleasantly surprised to be asked my opinion on another site. I'd share the link but really, it is a poor site, no ranking, and a potentially harmful link relationship so I'll omit it from this post.
The site home page is nothing more than a welcome page with a few statements of inspirational dreams, teeny-tiny MLK type sound-bites if you will, and a guest login box. All you need to do is type guest and in you're in. Great! I can do that.
The very next screen showed a navigation menu that didn't function so I still had no information about this site to help me. Instead, I'm greeted by another login type box thinly disguised as "tell us who you are." Yeah right - see the screen-shot.

Why All the Hubbub?
There is a lot of emphasis on search, and a lot of speculation about what Google is doing with search. Oddly, I find it rather easy to see, or sense the direction things are going and why.
Everything on the Internet continues to evolve and change to feed the consumer demand for a better experience. Whether we want our banking conveniences online and extremely secure, or we want better visual experiences with our online games, and even more today than ever to be able to hang out and goof around with our friends. The Internet has continually responded and morphs more and more into an extension of tools and communication created for a common good.
The Place of Search
Ranking for keywords and getting to the top of the search engine pages has been the focus and strategy of marketing companies for years now. Regrettably, not all of them are ethical in their business model, approach, nor delivery. With the right massaging of data and interpretation, I can put your site at #1 top spot of a Google search. The real trick is to ensure whether I can get your site in front of the right eyeballs. Read the rest...

Your business is the most important focus... aside from family.
I say business is your most important focus to point out the trap. You're good at what you do, otherwise, why would you do it? So why get distracted from that?
As I see what goes on around me in the social media world, a massive focus is on these get-rich-quick Internet Marketing programs. And yes, some people do make a boat-load of money. Julie is a national correspondent who has had a diverse career in the Journalism industry. Just recently, CanWest, a major Canadian player in the journalist and media industry, laid off somewhere around 350 journalism people and 250 television media people, or vice-versa. On top of that, where Julie once would receive a royalty payment for articles that were picked up by other agencies, she and other Journalists and Writers like her have had to accept and sign away their right to royalties for their articles. Personally, I think this sucks. At the same time, I've said it quite a number of times over the past 5-8 years: The world of work is changing.
Julie's first step was to amass and organize an incredible amount of diverse and in-depth articles published in magazines and newspapers over the years. When you take a look at her site, you'll see what I mean by the quality of content and the variety of interests her writing serves. With the first step centered upon organizing, assessing, and distributing the content in a fashion that works well online, a vision for a dynamic publishing website took shape.

Now Google increases the levels of its game. With data warehousing, application services, and other growing aspects of this massive business, Google has been amassing more information that analyses social behaviour in connection with search results and traffic. Don't sweat it if privacy feels like it is at risk, that's not what it is about, and not what they collect.
Google's ability to monitor traffic, sites, etc, also monitors IP's and IP clusters What this means is that Google's analysis on those IP's and IP clusters within search traffic patterns also yields more valuable information that is dictated by everyday search and surf traffic. Here's some what can be zeroed in on if it is done well.
